Diff mem settings for each key?

We've had two memory issues that our dealer says is because each key has all of it's own memory settings. One is seat/mirror/steeringwheel settings that according to dealer there are actually six (1, 2, 3 for Key A and 1, 2, 3 for Key B). True? Similarly, they said that the problem when our liftgate limit setting didn't work was likely because you have to set it for each key. ??

Thanks,

Not sure which MY and vehicle you are referencing (your profile only shows an '84 G-Wagen). I do know that what you describe used to be a standard feature but was eliminated because too many people that weren't aware of the functionality (poor dealer orientation) complained. It's a great feature, as each of two drivers can keep their own settings. You can differentiate the keys by the release button (for the mechanical key) color. One is black, one is grey. If this is now offered again, that's great!! Can anyone confirm?

From reading the manual it appears there are a maximum of 3 stored settings can only be called up by pressing the appropriate button. Kind of lame.

Greg, not kind of, it is! While maybe a small issue to most folks, this is an example of what drives me nuts! M-B discontinues a feature in order to reduce complaints, solely because owners don't read the manual thoroughly (on a $60,000+ purchase!) or the dealer won't take the time to properly orient the buyer to the extensive feature list. How is it other manufacturers can continue with the individual-specific key, but M-B can't? Ok, my rant is over.

My '06 ML does not have key-dependent settings, either. In fact you have to continue to hold the button on the side of the seat while things adjust.

Thanks all. The service adviser insisted that our 2012 has individual settings per key, despite what the manual says. I'm hoping to do some testing this afternoon just to make sure the manual is correct.

Just curious, why is this such a big issue?

I don't think it's a BIG issue, just a minor convenience you get used to after having it. Unless you switch drivers often it's no big deal.

I agree it's not a big issue, just one of those things that sets an old crank like me off!

I was spoiled with my '05 E, that had key-dependant settings. My '01 ML and '08 GL did not have the feature. The fact it was discontinued to reduce complaints (this was during the mid- to late-2000's) irks me because it does not solve the issue causing the complaints, it eliminates functionality that the brand that boasts "The Best or Nothing" should have retained as standard.

Oh well, its a bonus if it has quietly returned as your SA claims!

Some cars even have the remotes change the radio stations to the ones that go along with that key. So you can listen to rock and your spouse can listen to country without resetting the radio buttons.

I don't have an issue with the memory keys but today I learned that I have to hold the button for the settings to change. I have a problem that! This is the only luxury vehicle where I had to do this. Kind of defeats the purpose if I need to leave a finger on the stupid button. Am I doing something wrong? I am guilty of not reading the manual page for page.

As I noted above for the W164. I hoped they'd fixed that. Must be the lawyers - worried about a kid getting squished!

Lol, just pictured a fat teen trying to steal it for a joy ride getting squished and stuck
My bimmers had it constant press also - for safety. so no one touch.
Although if the car is off/ in park one touch should have been allowed but safety again I guess...

Here's what I don't get - they can program windows and sunroofs with a pressure sensor to stop closure when an obstacle (fingers!) is detected, but they can't do that in a seat? C'mon!

My current '08 BMW has one touch, on or off.
