Question about ordering a Mercedes

It varies by dealer and specifics of the order.
Some dealers ask for very minimal down, like $500.
Some ask for BIG money down if the order is very uncommon as they figure they'll have a hard time unloading it if you back out. That could be a very unpopular color and/or options that very few customers want.

In the last few years, my Dealer refuses to accept a down payment from me. After so many cars, he is grateful for my business and shows his deep appreciation. By the way all my maintenance (including Winter/Summer tires rotation) is performed at the dealership. Hence I return the favor.

I have factory ordered every MB I have ever owned. All except one at the same dealership. I have just been asked for 500 bucks and it is always fully refundable. Every one of the cars have been heavilly optioned.

$500 to $5000, though if you order some wild combo, you may be required to pre-pay for those options (ie: designo).

I think when you negotiate price is just part of the negotiation process.
I negotiated price (i.e. "Invoice") before giving a significant $5,000 deposit in December.
Two weeks ago I learned that I finally had a build date (could get the lighting package but couldn't get dynamic handling) of April 13th.

Don't mean to butt in, but on the subject of ordering, my potential dealer says that if I order the 350ML BluTec they will sell at $1,000 over invoice, but say they cannot commit to any financing terms until delivery. Same as to Conquest $ - they say it depends on what MB is offering at delivery. Same thing when I asked, alternatively, about lease terms - depends on what is being offered at delivery. Is this they way it is commonly done?

Agree with incentives and financing being out of the dealer's control, but see if you can get invoice instead of +1%. Dealer in Florida doing it but Knoxville dealer said no way (I'm in Atlanta and the dealers are really arrogant here so I'm starting off with a road trip back home).
