MY 13 Cayenne diesel

Yes, it's a V6. Yes, it has 240 hp. But the MB has 49 lb ft more torque. Diesel Cayenne weighs 243 lb less than ML BlueTEC. It claims a 0.3s better accelaration to 60, a 1 mpg better hwy mileage, 517 lb more towing capacity, and costs $5,260 more (though I expect '13 ML to go up). It has a collapsible spare (+ compressor and sealant), 1 more ratio in the tranny, and dynamic bi-xenons are optional as they are on the ML. Like all Posrches, you can nearly double the base price with options (say "ceramic composite brakes?").

Thanks

Can you help me out here by filling in the following WHO MAKES THE ENGINE AND WHERE?

Diesel Engine only:
'12 ML
'13 GL
'12 X5
'12 TOUREG
'13 CAYENNE

I get the feeling these are all the same "base" engines. Then the factory does a little tweak here or there and slaps their logo on it! Does the iron block come from the SAME factory somewhere in Germany? That has to be the case as they are all V6 diesels with +/- in specs. Also, all are GERMAN...

I'd like to believe I have and engine that is BENZ from the ground up?

I would rather a ML though. The Cayenne is not the kind of styling I like. In fact, I don't like any Porsche's.

Cayenne uses the same 2967cc base motor as VW & Audi, with modified manifolds turbo and chip.

ML350 diesel is 2987cc and unrelated other than fuel goes in and power comes out.

The VW Group V6 diesel (Porsche/Audi/VW) does have a composite cast iron block with aluminum heads. The Mercedes is a more sophisticated linerless aluminum block. BMW also uses an aluminum block, but I don't believe it's linerless.

Thanks!

I was sold after reading that article on the spray on liquid metal lining system. Logic: if its good enough for AMG should be good enough for the diesel.
