Wiper noise

Has anyone found that the wipers on their new ML are noisy? When the wipers change direction there is much more “slap” than there should be. The dealer adjusted some angles and put new wipers blades on, but those didn’t help much. Part of the problem seems to be linkage slop which the deal also says is normal.

When on fast speed the slap is unacceptable. Also, has anyone noticed that on the BT when coasting downhill the wipers overrun by about 25%? In other words they speed up to a faster speed even when on high. Then they make even more noise during this mode.

I suspect that the car is “hard charging” the battery on deceleration to recapture some lost energy and the wiper motor is not voltage regulated like the rest of the car.

We have had our ML for 4 months and the wipers are silent. I am very picky about wipers so I would know if they were making noise. Our is gas so I cannot help on your 2nd question.

I'm retired and do not travel in the rain if I can help it. If I think it will rain and must leave the house I take my pickup truck and the ML stays in the garage. In the three months I've owned it I have not turned on the wipers, in fact, I don't know how to. It does not rain much in Texas during the summer so I will have to learn how to work the wipers soon because the fall rains are coming. But as to your question, here is a new product that is getting great reviews at the detail forums and should solve your problem - http://www.autogeek.net/griots-garag...s-sealant.html

Didn't know we had or could even get regenerative braking in North America. But I thought the same for stop start and my 13 will have it

I did't think it was regenerative like a hybrid.
I was told that the alternator does not charge when accelerating to reduce the load, but when you coast it swings in and gives full charge.

This could give the high speed wipe when going downhill.

Hopefully not as bad as the old vacuum wipers.

Looks like the same thing as Rain-X glass treatment, that has been out for many years. I find that effective at highway speeds, but not at low speeds, and once you use the wipers a few times it is less effective and may even lead to chatter. I avoid using it on the windshield.

From the reviews I've read it is similar to RainX but much, much better. It not only beads water but seems to help the wiper blades work smoothly (less noise) on the glass and that is what the OP was looking for. Here is a thread at AutoGeek where people are talking about it:

I'll give it a try. I have a whole rack of other GG products - like most of them a lot.

I have not noticed any wiper noise. I use Rain-X on all my vehicles and love it. Here in Florida it rains just about everyday for a few minutes.

Also I have not noticed the speed change that you speak of. I would put the wipers in manual mode and see if they change speed. I suspect that the sensor is just adjusting the speed. if it changes speed in manual mode then you have an issue.
