I have returned from a brief trip from Illinois to Georgia and back in my new ML. I am very pleased with the actual MPG. I'll report on two tankfuls of diesel fuel.
First tank... departed IL with the tank filled to the very top (liquid fuel visible at the top of the filler neck). Warm day, A/C on most of the way, estimating 70% fairly flat ground and 30% rather hilly. 95% "highway", 5% "city." Cruise control on maybe 50% of the time. Not driving aggressively, speeds generally at the speed limit or a few MPH above. Car not heavily loaded... just me in it. Tire pressure showing around 34 psi.
Vehicle trip computer displayed: 580 miles, 30.9 MPG, 9:21 hours, average MPH 62.
The ACTUAL (measured/calculated) MPG, measured by refilling to the very top of the filler neck, 18.522 gallons divided into 580 miles = 31.34 MPG.
Second tank... circumstances similar, except probably 55%/45% flat hilly, 80/20 Highway/City, and I was carrying a passenger for about half the trip, and I was in a bit of a hurry so I may have driven more aggressively (faster).
Vehicle trip computer displayed: 649 miles, 30.5 MPG.
The ACTUAL (measured/calculated) MPG, 22.322 gallons into 649 miles yielded 29.07 MPG.
Not bad.

...and as the BlueTec folks know, it takes a little patience to fill the tank all the way to the top because of the foam.

That's pretty good. I hope to get the same on a 1000 mile round trip in the near future. Is it me, or is that the MB fuel gauge is very consistent through out the tank? Most vehicles, after fill up, stay on the full for 100 miles or more then swing faster from 3/4 to 1/4. This is my first MB and first diesel but it seems that my car gives an accurate display throughout the tank and comes off of full after 25 or so miles.

I'm in about the same range as you are. I'm seeing 26 overall, on mostly 45mph-50mph rural roads. On the highway, we see 28-29mpg. I will report on the trailer mpg as soon as I hook it up!

We just got back from a trip to Key West from the Tampa area. Approximately 1000 miles round trip. We averaged 28 MPG. Interestingly, from Key West to the Homestead area we were traveling at an average of 45 MPH and got 34 MPG. The rest of the time was at 75MPH. I think that is pretty good as we only have 2400 miles on the car now and it should get even better. We love our Blue Tech!
