With just two months left in the 2012 selling season, Mercedes-Benz is looking to keep its sales lead over BMW in the United States with as much as $5,000 in discounts for “VIP customers.”

According to a memo to dealers obtained by Bloomberg, Mercedes-Benz is offering cash back on several of its 2012 models in order to help maintain its 5,221 unit sales lead over BMW. The incentive program offers as much as $750 off the Mercedes C-Class, $2,250 off the E-Class, $3,000 for GLK-Class SUVs, $3,275 for the flagship S-Class and $5,000 for GL-Class SUVs. The memo states that the deal “can be offered at the discretion of the dealership’s general manager to VIP customers of the dealership, business associates of the dealership’s employees and dealership employees’ extended family members.”

In addition to the discounts, Mercedes is also offering current owners the opportunity to skip as many as five monthly payments.

BMW announced a similar program last month. The Munich-based automaker is allowing current lessees to forgo as many as three payments if they turn in their vehicle for a new BMW model.

Mercedes-Benz and BMW have been duking it out for most of the year after BMW knocked off Lexus to become the U.S.' best-selling luxury brand in 2011. Although Mercedes trails BMW by just 5,000 cars in the U.S., the gap is much wider globally where BMW holds a 145,000 unit advantage through the first nine months of the year.
We bought 2013 ML and 2013 E 350 yesterday. Dealer couldn't combine ANY incentives and said that they did not receive the above mentioned incentives. We paid a little bit under invoice minus Winter sales event on both cars.

Anyone know if there is Conquest or Loyalty this month?

Valid incentives that I know of:
Winter Sales event M = $1500, E = $4000
American Bar Association M = $2000, E = $2500

Will post after purchase and let you know if I was able to combine any offers.
Does anyone have any idea if these Winter Event deals will be extended to December? Or maybe even get better for the ML?

A gaggle of MB's
There will be a couple of day lurch before MB re-confirms December - I reasonable expect on ML's it will stay in-line with November incentives.

That said I would expect almost all dealers will honor November incentives if deal is on the table for Sun/Mon/Tues.

I also expect 80% or more of dealers nationwide will be sold out on ML (and GL for that matter) well before Christmas.

End-of-Nov factory production was consistent to schedule - most dealers concerned about 2nd-4th week transportation from factory since historically the transport carriers start getting a bit goofy that time of year, especially when weather starts setting in.

The USAA $2000 incentive has been extended through December and is valid until 01/02/2013. The incentive was $3,000 on the ML through August or September of this year. It then dropped down to $2,000 for the 2013 models. It may go back up to $3,000 as the demand slows down (IF the demand slows down), but that is strictly speculation on my part. I bought an ML that was delivered to me in June and the incentive at that time was $3,000.

The incentive runs month to month, and is only valid at the time the car is delivered. That means if the incentive is $2,000 at the time you order the car, and it is delivered 2 or 3 months later, the incentive valid at delivery time is the one that applies. If you are buying a car off the dealer's lot, then of course what you see is what you get.

And... I originally misunderstood how the "incentive" works. It was mentioned somewhere here on this forum that USAA, the insurance company, pays the $2,000 to the dealer. That is UNTRUE. The $2,000 IS actually paid (or credited) to the dealer, but it is paid by Mercedes Benz of North America.

I just priced out a well equipped 2013 ML350 BlueTec on the USAA website with a calculated MSRP of $63,975 and the "guaranteed" USAA price today, was $59,261. A savings of $4,714.

I bought one for myself in June of this year and the numbers were a lot better. My MSRP was $62,665 and my USAA price was $56,551. A savings of $6,114.

FYI... the current incentive on the 2013 GLK is also $2,000 but the 2013 GL has a $3,000 incentive.
