Its filled at the factory B4 it gets to the dealer. Otherwise it would not pass QC. They don't, at least I hope they don't, ship a car with a warning light on. If it is low then it leaked out. The dealer needs to trouble shoot the leak. But it has been my experience that the dealer will as little as possible.

The only way I could correct mine was to add more anti-freeze. Anxious to see if this is a one time problem or if it persists in the future. Interesting that I never had any signs of leakage though.

If its a head gasket or block problem you will not see the leak. But I doubt its an engine issue their early on.

2012 ML350 Bluetec
Hi,

I need to purchase coolant for my 2012 ML350 Bluetec. Is there a generic brand that I should purchase or do I have to go to the dealer? Any brand recommendations? Thx!

"The vehicle noticed that SOME fluid level is at a critical low and therefore triggered the most critical warning so that you would come into the stealership and get it checked out." (if this is true I just lost all respect for German engineering)

I am not embellishing but this what he attributed it to.
Back when I owned a W203 C Class the coolant light would come on every time my windshield washer fluid was low. (I would actually get both a low windshield washer fluid warning and low coolant warning) The explanation you received is them same they gave me back in 2007. I highly doubt that is the case this time with the W166

The "hot" level seems to be totally full, while the "cold" level seems to be about an inch from the top of the black plastic. I don't see any "fill to here" marks on the side of the reservoir, but I wouldn't imagine that the level warrants a warning light?

Oh well, warning hasn't come on since - I'm planning to drive for a another week or so to check warning light behaviour before topping her up with additional coolant.
i know this is an old thread but I ran across it from a search and couldn’t find any other post about it. The line 1” below the seam is the low mark. The seam is the full mark. With that cap off, there is a piece of molded plastic you can see through the opening. This is the same height as the seam. Fill to this mark.

Had this happen to me on my ML350. Happened once then never again. Sometimes the sensor maybe just acts funky due to extreme cold. It was like -10 when it happened lol.

WTH lol. That is not even connected. Funny how weird things happen like that. My C240 never did that. Odd.

I get the low coolant level message as well, started about a month ago. After reading this thread, I added a bit of coolant to the tank on Sunday, which had a perfectly fine level to begin with. I have to remember to ask the wife it the message went away....
