instrument panel update

The display behind the steering wheel on 2102 ML's, is in black and white, and i understand for MY 2103, its now in color....
Can this be updated via a software flash, or does it require changing the entire instrument panel unit ?

The screen is different.
The new instrument uses color TFT screen. So it probably needs to be a hardware change (if it is possible).

It'll be new hardware you'll have to replace. Just contact MBenzNL to do the retrofit- doesn't sound impossible to me.

You're an optomist! Involves software, too. If someone wants to take the initiative to figure this out, I'm all for it. I'd pay a grand to do it, but not more.

Where are you seeing that the display behind the wheel is in colour?

It was a well-publicized update for MY13.

From the US Dealer Ordering Guide and pic from US MY13 brochure:

That goes with a more monochrome colour scheme for the Comand screen then? I presume the Comand will be able to be changed to the new version by a software update? Any idea about when this might be available?

I've asked for a software update and they said that updated for new color is not possible. I got updates before on this car but that one is not possible

Adding colour behind the wheel would be expected to be hardware - I was wondering about Comand and the screen for Nav, etc.

Just looked at the UK price list and it shows pictures of the colour screen in the instrument cluster yet it does not mention it anywhere, either as standard equipment or as an option. Odd.

So you have been told that effectively there is no Comand update to be made available? On the latest model within a year of release? That would be quite poor if true.

I was told I just got the latest update last week. No color change. I asked mbusa directly about mbrace 2 update since I knew it would have the new black color interface and they said that is not possible because of different hardware. So technically not completely shut out yet, but doubtful. Let me me ask the more specific question to the shop foreman. He would be more knowledgable.

Hi Greg, according to my dealer my ML500 (Aus market) is being built this Wed 31 Oct but I wonder if it's a MY12 or MY13.

Any ideas if it will have the color display in the instrument cluster?
And/or the Multi-contour seats (399)?

Thanks, any info would be greatly appreciated.
