Mercedes GL 350 Bluetec Diesel X166
Hello everyone, forgive the language. I live in Spain and I use a translator. I have seen the chat and PDF of jrsmith and I think it will help me. I have a GL 350 Diesel X166 year 2016, and like in the previous Gl, I want to enjoy the Distronic. So far I bought the control unit 2129004603, the star Mercedes 1648880411, Controls lights and control unit 1669009407, ABS brake pump (is it necessary?) 1669014400, Continental video Ecu camera 0009000102, and 2 radar sensor 0009055701.

Do I need the harnesses, brackets and windshield? I have some doubts:
1 - How many radar sensors 0009055701, are necessary, and where are they installed?
2º-The Mercedes GL 350 bluetec year 2015, can have some coincidence of Arnes? For example, I added in another GL the heating of seats and the installation of harness, it was already placed.
3º-Where can I find a diagram of the distronic in the gl?
4º.La installation was made by a Mercedes dealer?
A big greeting for everyone, I like this chat.

You need four of the 0009055701 sensors, two in front bumper, and two to replace the lane departure sensors in the rear bumper.
A portion of the existing harness to the rear bumper can be used. However the harness to the long range radar and the radar control module does not exist. It has to be added.
The ML and GL wiring should be very similar. A good dealer should be able to install, but I doubt any would. I don't believe its a retrofit that Mercedes would support. I did it myself.

Thank you very much for your answer. With your experience I am more encouraged to install it, although as you say, I do not think a Mercedes dealer will help me. I will try to take pictures of the installation in case some member of MBWorld needs it. Only 2 remaining doubts remain:
-Is it necessary to change the Brake Pump?
-The part 166 900 04 08 8N85, is the emergency switch or seat heating control?
Thank you very much and I hope to get the Distronic installation

It is not necessary to replace the brake pump, nor the ESP module.
1669000408 is the steering column control module. It needs to be replaced to get you the knob that adjusts the following distance. If you don't have a heated steering wheel, you will need a different part number.

installation Distronic GL x166 2015

excuse the translator: today the installation has begun. have already placed the 4 small radar (in the rear bumper had 1). they have changed the module of the steering wheel and now the difficult thing begins: electrical installation.
They had the doubt of where the cables coming from the central radar were going. Could you tell me ?. I will pass the photos of everything (if we manage to make it work)

I routed the cable (purple twisted pair) by the front fuse box, and under the cabin air filter, then down under the carpet under the passenger seat. The connection point is the connector at the yaw sensor that is under the plastic paneling under the passenger seat.

Looking great. I didn't have to remove the rear bumper to change the radar, just the wheel lining. Looks like you are starting the interior. I had to remove the carpet in addition to the seats to route the harness. Gave me a chance to get the interior back to "factory" clean!

I'm impressed with your technical knowledge and drive in adding these features to you car. Most people would say its impossible but you have proved them wrong. I noticed you live in Spain and I have a question for you. I know when I used to visit Spain, Germany and other European countries they all required yellow/amber rear turn signals in their cars, whereas in the US , some cars have yellow/amber and most just have red rear turn signals. I have a 2015 ML here in the US, which has the clear/white LEDs that blink red , my question do European model of the ML have yellow/amber LEDs. I personally feel the amber signals are safer and easier to see.

ML and GL installation differences

I also have a ML and there are many differences with the bumpers of the GL. They already tried to do as you say, but it is impossible. The electrical installation is also very different. The 2 seats have been removed because the camera control unit is mounted on the driver's side next to the battery. That's why they're doing a new scheme. They thought it was all like the ML and it's quite different. I also got the dealer to do it and they are taking all the electrical installation through the original conduits. I can not complain. I just hope it works well as your car, which is the important thing.
greetings to all. I keep sending pictures of the installation and see if I can get the full outline.
greetings to all.

Sorry Isawelvis, the translator cut my answer to your question: it is mandatory that the turn signals light yellow / Amber. In Spain and Europe we have to pass ITV. Compulsory technical inspection to our cars. any change that is not authorized and approved, penalizes the ITV, In USA you have more freedom with the changes in the cars. Here is everything regulated.
Please forgive my answers with the translator, if something is badly explained, tell me
regards

I will remember that for my next trip! I was just in Vitoria, Spain in March. Unfortunately it was a very short, 1.5 days.

OK, in my case, they are waiting to finish assembling the Distronic and download the software to check if mirrors work for blind spots, or it is necessary to change the mirror's camera. I keep informing you of everything and sending photos when they finish riding in the dealership, they are taking a little because they did not want to make a transformation that does not come from the factory.
forgive the translation. I keep informing you

I am sure you need to change the camera as the radar ECU will be looking for a video input. If you have an older version of the camera, with correct hardware number, you can easily update the software.
