How accurate is TPMS ?

I finally replaced my Conti's with Pirelli Verde and not sure I like them.
The shop returned the car to me with 48 reading on the TPMS which I felt was too high...had the pressure lowered to 38 when I had the alignment done this morning but car read 41 when I picked it up...and 44 after the 17 mile ride home. Took out my digital gauge ant it read 42.
Now I don't know who to trust !
The Conti's ran 35 cold..38-39 hot...according to the TPMS
I need to figure this out as I find a nauseating jiggle in the ride at 60 and don't know if I have a bad tire or pressures not right.

Is TPMS always right ?

A gaggle of MB's
I am not surpised you don't like the Pirelli's...

A tire shop will inflate closer to max pressure recommended by the tire manufacturer to maximize tread life - BTW tire manufacturers who have tread life warranties will void the tiread life warranty if you are set less than 80% of their recommended, the devil is in the details and pro-rated tread warranties are by-and-large-designed just to keep you in the brand rather than "cost recovery" warranties.

If you are talking MB TPMS then it's super "sensitve" since it is designed to give you close-to-instant warning if a sudden pressure loss is encountered due to tire ouncture or tirwe failue... TPMS is NOT designed to be used as a tire inflation tool.

Tire pressure "cold" after overnite I would start at 38 PSI, drive that for one week, then experiment with +/- 2 PSI increments - driving each increment for a week so you can make your own detailed assessment - morning pressure tested with good quality/reliable tire gauge.

DON''T get sucked into a an*l trap of fixating on TPMS pressure.. or you will flip out over working/temp/pressure variations during the day or on the road..
