I would check with your dealer. It is a dealer installed item. My dealer said they don't put them on unless the customer request. He put the plate holder in the back with the spare tire. But, I am thinking each dealer is different.

Dealer I got mine from did the same thing. Although I was buying from out of State and they thought my State did not require a front plate. They were wrong but I plan to take my chances since only gotten a ticket for it once in the past 20 or so years.

Sometimes I am glad I live in Alberta. There is no such thing as a front license plate here and has not been for about 20 years. I see other ML's with front plates and it certainly detracts from the appearance.

I am rather indifferent about front plates. If a vehicle I own has the bracket installed then I put the plate on. I have been pulled over twice in my life for lack of a front plate. Only one of those resulted in a ticket.

I'm in LA, like JT, however no front plate has been a hassle for me because of being pulled over so I have conceded for the past few years and kept the plate on. I don't have the time or desire to be pulled over and then get the fix-it ticket resolved. In the areas where I tend to park many people get no-front-plate tickets even while parked on public streets.

I don't even notice the aesthetics being marred by the plate any more...I just don't care as much as I did previously. It's only a car.

I'd actually put my front plate onto my ML specifically but just too lazy to figure out how to put the bracket on. Here if you get a ticket you can send a picture in of the vehicle that shows the plate is there and it gets dismissed, or so I have been told. I do not think they write tickets for no plates here when a car is simply parked. If they actually cracked down on front plates here then I'd definitely quit being lazy about it.
