Bad engine mount...

I recently started experiencing a vibration at a stop, in gear when the engine was up to temp in my 13' ML550 with approx 18k miles. I brought it in and apparently one of the engine mounts was bad... While it was in I had the horrible rattle upon start up taken care of after reading the post about the "cam tensioner oil bleed out" issue... That had annoyed me since new, the truck sounded like a 20 year old clunker with no oil on start up and was embarassing. I'm glad about that post, I was never a believer of the "direct injection" excuse I had been given for the rattle... I also had numerous fault codes in the transmission which supposedly explained the rare and intermittent issue of feeling like I was in low range with the emergency brake applied when pulling away after a cold start... That had only happened 3 times. Had another oil change done, $158 is reasonable for 9 quarts of mobil 1. I have to say, these issues I have had in the first 15 months (3rd set of rotors, soft close door died, hard down shifting trans, rotating head lamp issue etc...) a little disappointing. Thankfully my dealership has been excellent and kept me happy. Anybody else experience the motor mount issue? Or transmission issue?

yeah, I'd have to say that my experience has been very disappointing too (see my separate thread). Although some people have had trouble free cars, it does appear to me that these ML's have many more issues than other SUV's. I'm doing research on other cars since I intend to get rid of my '13 ML350. When I read the message boards for Q5/Q7's or Cayennes, it does seem to me that there are far fewer problems being reported. Seems like people are posting on a lot of issues with the W166.

I really love the 550, how it drives, has actual off road capability with the on/off package, the engine is amazing etc... But the quality issues already are scary. I plan on getting the extended warranty as I'm a big believer in them with the price of repairs but I have a feeling I will certainly get my money's worth when the time comes... My dealership is great and getting the brand new loaner cars is nice but the reality is, who the hell would ever buy the make again if I wasn't being handed a loaner car?!? I had my last two grand Cherokees for total of 7 years and had a seat warmer die and needed a transmission brain recalibrated once. That's it.... Same with my last two infinitis, a 08' QX56 and 07'G35. Very minor and few problems.... It's really a shame, I was expecting better. Again, I love the truck and how it drives but the quality is disappointing.

My experience is similar. I like my Bluetec--it's quiet, fuel efficient and the torque is awesome.

Unfortunately, I have also had way more reliability issues than any of my last 10 vehicles or so.

Quick list off the top of my head:

On delivery, the driver's door was out of adjustment, and the AC power jack in front of the back seat fell out of position, so it was dangling free.

I soon had the false low diesel exhaust fluid issue, which required three dealer stops, including one for a reset so that my vehicle wouldn't disable itself.

Had loud squealing sound when one of rear windows went up or down--easily fixed with silicone lubrication.

Transmission dumped it's fluid due to failure of transmission pump seal. Vehicle towed; new seal installed.

Several months later transmission dumped all of it's fluid again. Towed again. Dealership determined transmission pump faulty, replaced. They offered me an extended warranty which was nice.

Several months later, transmission not shifting smoothly. Dealer installed new transmission.

Day after car back from transmission replacement, one of power rear struts failed: tailgate would not go up. Strut replaced.

There may be a few minor issues I'm missing. Throughout, my dealer has offered competent service and loaners, but I've spent a lot of time shuttling back and forth to the dealer, which has been a pain.

i know this forum is a lovefest and most people here want to think that the ML is such a great car but I think it's pretty obvious that there are some quality issues (at least to me). if I were you, I'd pursue getting the car lemoned or MB buyback. I've already done so with my own car and am done with the ML and possibly MB. I think that it's unacceptable for a car like this to have to make so many trips back to the dealer. I've had inconsistent experiences with the dealer, personally I think the level of service is much better at Porsche and Lexus, but maybe it's a reflection of my particular MB dealership.

Damn I don't know what to think...

Either I got lucky with my ml and driving 20'000 miles with absolutely no issues or you guys are unlucky with your ml's

Either way a lot of these issues sound unacceptable for a mb car!

I failed to mention something else that scared me. Two times while my truck was in I had c class' with less than 1500 miles. One had the equivalent of an electrical heart attack, every warning light came on and stayed on, would stall intermittently, not even the turn signals worked... The second time, the command screen was dead, warning lights came on and off and this one actually died on me in a drive thru pharmacy. To make it worse, it locked itself in park so I couldn't even push it. After seeing this happen on two other brand new MBs my confidence in their electrical systems is shattered.

wow,
sorry to hear and glad to know. I've actually read that some mercedes were prone to stalling when driving. That's incredibly unsafe. Although my wife's experience has been terrible, I need to replace my car with something sporty, has 4 seats and can hold golf clubs. Amongst other things, I've been eyeing the c63 but this post kinda seals the deal for me. I'm not going to consider another MB until quality improves. So sorry to hear about all your problems. Like I said, you should consider getting an lemon lawyer. When you spend that much money for a car, it should be a source of enjoyment, not frustration. The LL attorneys work on contingency so you don't have a lot to lose.
