Hard Shifting New (~100 miles) 2014 ML350BlueTEC

I am noticing that, when everything is still cool (~40°F) in the morning, the 2->3 upshift is hard and the engine flairs a bit before it drops into 3rd gear. Downshifting 4->3 is also a not smooth bump before the engine and drive train are warmed up.

Has anyone else experienced this?

My 2007 ML320CDI did pretty much the same thing, but never smoothed out when everything was warmed up. Same transmission, but it looks like they've only improved things a bit in 7 years.

Our 2012 350 bluetec exhibits the same behavior. I also notice a rougher than I'd like shift from 1-2nd. The last time it was in for service, I asked about it and the SA said they would flash the trans with the newest software. It seemed to help for a while, but still happens on occasion. I plan on asking about it again at next service.

^I need to add that our ML's rough shifts happen even when warm and driven for quite some time.

The newer diesels do flare up a bit between shifts. This is normal and it does annoy a lot of customers if they switch from gas. Some don't mind it but theres not much to do. Even with the latest software and readapting, the flare will still be there.

I will have to agree with others and my 2014 diesel does the same. I only get it when cold and am glad to hear that it is normal. After a few miles, it seems to disappear.

The more I drive my truck, the more I appreciate the low end torque of the power train. The WeatherTech stuff was dropped off and installed yesterday and we will be heading to Fernandina Beach/Ameila Island this weekend for some fishing!
