And the GL is much wider.

To be fair, you have a 2010 ML63 and the 63's and 550's had the same 'higher end' interiors as the GL (eg. stitched dash, extra wood above the glovebox, etc.) so in your perspective, the ML has the same interior as the GL. However, with the base models for both the new and old ML, they both have an inferior interior compared to the base GL's interiors.

There are not many cars/SUV that have that type of performance in the $70k range. Otherwise, I think S is a better value.
So you ordered the car without testing it?

And yeah, I also think the S is a better value but I do love the exhaust pipes on the Turbo.

Yes, we ordered it back in March and just got it about three weeks ago. There are some bugs and Porsche is definitely not up to par on initial quality compared to Mercedes and BMW but overall my wife is happy about it.

Funny stuff that wife is turning into a speed racer. The cabin is pretty insulated and she did not pay enough attention to not get over speed limit. I set the speed limit warning at 45 mph and it sure helps. She also told me people try to race her at stop light until they were able to see a middle age woman driving with two kids from the 20% tint.

Both my wife and I felt the material on the GL is just better. I really don't know much about the GL because as soon as we sat in one, she crossed it out from our list because it is just too big for her.

I am thinking now maybe the GL came with real leather and ML was not. But I am unsure about it.

Also, how's the exhaust note of the Macan? Like what would you compare it to?

It is just ok. Nice deep roar when starts up but it totally quiet down when it drives.

Die hard P-car people are waiting for sport exhaust from Porsche (November) for $3K. Just to compare, AMG GLA45 performance exhaust is $450. Do the same thing but crazy Porsche price....

That is hilarious!

The looks on their face after that must be priceless. They must have loud bass music playing alongside.

Ha... no idea but I live in a college town, so there are tons of kids. There are also many "foreign students" who drive very nice cars such as S4, M3 or Panamera. It can be pretty dangerous because I can tell that they have not really driven cars for long.

But honestly, the thing that drives me bonkers is that console with rows of buttongs up and down either side. like the designers at blackberry moved over to Porsche and said "more buttons is better!". It's probably easier than flinging a wheel through a command menu...by my goodness it looks cluttered. The only other thing that stood out was the door panels, they looked really cheap to me. the whole packagedidn't say "porsche" to me at all(kind fo the way the gla45 didn't say "amg" to me either).
you can think of it as the best and worst of all worlds....well, it's a sporty hauler that gets good mileage...or, it's not really a porsche, not really an suv..you can't really compete with a sports car..just kind of out there.

To be fair... there aren't any buttons on the traditional "center stack" on the dash, so really they just moved the small buttons from the dash to mid sized buttons on the console.

Any idiot can drop a monster engine on any car, but handling is what defines a sports car.
Have you tested a w166 ml63 in s (gearbox) and s+ mode (suspension) around a racetrack and on the road?

My daily driver, until the ML arrives next week, is a beat up old Ford Escape...the car cannot go over 75 because it starts to shake in the front end so bad, and the the CVT transmission is so noisy it makes you deaf winding up to speed.

So when I get in my amg, or worse, my wifes completely silent E350...I find myself going 90 no trouble at all. you start cursing people "why is this jackass in the passing lane going....oh ****, he's going 85".

Yes, it is small...too small..and I agree, it's 'just kind of out there"...it doesn't have a place in either SUV or sporty car segment. That is why this thread should be moved off of this board. Comparing the ML to this little Porsche SUV is like comparing apples to oranges...or at least Crimson King apple to a crab apple.
