You Will Not Believe This
I was in the market for a '14 Blue Tec and had been searching up and down the East Coast and found one all optioned out at a NE dealership.
Called and got a price that I liked and told them I wanted to purchase it. All I needed was a signed over title and a bill of sale and I would have the car shipped to me. They refused to sell me the car and called me an exporter.
They told me that because of diesels being purchased and exported outside the USA that MB would require me to sign a document that if I sold the car outside the country within 6 months, they could sue me and that MB would not give me the title to the car for 6 months. In addition they wanted me to supply 3 months of bank statements.
Unbelievable or what?
I was told by another NE dealership that they would not sell a diesel outside of the NY, NJ area and I told them I was from MA.
What is going on and does MB know about this?

I saw your other thread where you said that one dealer called you names. I also saw the thread where you managed to get a crazy discount. Maybe you have a way of talking that's unusual for a regular car buyer? I've never been called names by a sales person.

I bought the ML350 Blue Tec in the crazy quote and actually got a further discount. MSRP $59,777 - I paid $52K.

I was told by my dealer that MB has a problem with people exporting. And dealer gets reamed by MB if it happens plus they get punished. Others have reported similar experiences buying the ML.

I'm in TX and had a dealer in NY ask today if I was going to export.
I told him cars were a commodity and commodities are all about price and it would be registered in TX.
Max Martin of MB Huntsville responded by answering my questions clearly and without hesitation. I'm sorry his car wasn't the right color. I like dealing with people like that.
Contacted about 15 dealers with inquiries this morning, many prompted auto responses, let's see how many respond correctly tomorrow.
