FYI exhaust vibration at idle
Not sure if this has been discussed before, I couldn't find it so here it goes. On 2012 ml350 and possibly later years as well, there have been complaints of a vibration or rumbling noise that occurs in gear at an idle, and seems to come from the rear of the vehicle. Mine had this and it started at around 35,000 miles (60,000km). Through a long round about way I discovered that there is a prescribed fix for this. It is a revised/improved exhaust rubber hanger, available from mercedes as part number A1664920044. It is green and the originals on my vehicle were purple. There are four of these per vehicle, two at the rear to support the muffler and two more somewhere near the front of the exhaust system. I only replaced the two at the muffler because it seemed to be shaking only back there. It worked, vibration gone. You can pry the originals off the vehicle by lubing them up with a little wd40, and I put the new ones on with a bit of dish soap. Both dealers in my area were not familiar with this part number and had to order it, so not sure if this is well known or not. I found it through my father who has an Identafix account at his repair shop.

Thanks, this solution fixed my vibration.
I have a 2012 ML350 (Gas) and my vibration was similarly only felt when stopped but in gear, it was more noticeable stopped but in reverse. I really thought this vibration / rattle was significant enough to be a loose heat shield or even something loose inside the cabin. To verify the hanger was the cause I had someone sit in the car while stopped and in gear while I pressed up on the muffler, to my surprise the noise went away. I also only replaced the two hangers holding the muffler.
I found the best price at www.fcpeuro.com for about $17 each, my nearest dealer wanted double.
