Tires for 20" AMG 5 Spoke Rims

I own a ’14 ML 350 BT with Sports Plus One Package to include 20” AMG 5 Spoke 9” Rims, Part Number Part Number A1664012002. On W166 I read thru the thread regarding the Michelin Premier LTX Tires and since I’ve owned Michelins in the past, I was pretty sold until reality set-in. They don’t produce them in size 265/45R20, WHAAAAT, your joking....... So I ventured on the Tire Rack site where they talk about Plus Sizing also called "Inch-Up" and they state: "A Plus Sizing rule of thumb is to increase tire width by 10 millimeters anddecrease sidewall height by 5 to 10 percent for each 1-inch increase in wheeldiameter.” Not quite sure what to make of that, I think I need a copy of Tires for Dummies.......

Michelin does offer their Premier in 275/45R20 however I don’t want to compromise safety in the slightest so not sure I’d go that route or possible effecton ABS. I like what I read about the Premier,Tread Life (60K Rated), Sidewall Stiffness, Tread Design + I’ve had Michelins on my RX300 since purchasing it in ’99.

Looking for a tire with the same characteristics so I went out and read all the reviews on the Pirelli Scorpion All Season Plus, they produce the 265 sizing however people out there are happy with the tread life, looks like averaging 25K, I can’t even see where they state the Tread Life Rating + not sure about "Run Flat" design. Lastly, I have the OEM Continental CrosscontactLX Sports on the vehicle, will need to replace within 2K mileage, my odometer reads 21,300 so another low Tread Life Tire. As you can see, I don’t put much mileage on the vehicle, highway miles, wife calls it a "Grocery Wagon" + stored in the winter and out comes the RX300. Any and all Comments Welcome, THANK YOU.....

I went through this. Highly recommend the Pirelli Scorpion Verde AS Plus. The plus variant is not available in run flat. However, it's an OE tread with a higher mileage rating (65k). They ride well, they're quiet, grip well, and don't tram line. I had to have mine road forced to get them to round out though.

265/45-20 is an odd size - no way around it. If you take the dive and down size your wheel to 255/50-19, selection opens up a lot more. That's what I did; tried three tire brands and wound up with Pirellis. I couldn't stand the Premier LTX with Airmatic; plus, they tram line badly. First time on grooved pavement was enough to make me go right back and have them removed.

275 may be workable for you - I just didn't want the wider tire.

OldMerc94 - Thanks for the response, guess I didn't notice the "Plus" VERSION = No Run Flat, they match what I'm looking for "ride well, they're quiet, grip well, and don't tram line", I'll take a look at them today. I've been driving for a long time (almost getting ready for the Blue Hair Dye) and always maintain my vehicles trying to keep up with maintenance terms but never heard the Tire World Term "Road Forced". Seems to be showing up more and more, perhaps a Revenue Enhancement by the Tire Installers or Tire Owners can feel or see when that needs to be done. Another thing I need to be aware of cause vs. effect.

Thanks for the Input - Closing this up, ended going with the 265/45/R20 Pirelli Scorpion Verde AS Plus (non-Run Flat) rated for 60K. Got them for $200 ea + added Lifetime Alignment @ $199.00, a good deal I thought since they charge around $90.00 for AWD Factory Spec Alignments here in New Hampshire. Learned something new "Road Forced" Balancing, never saw one of those balancing machines before, interesting, whatever makes for a better/safer drive I'm all in.

Michelin LTX on AMG 20"

I just posted this on the LTX thread, but didn't mention the wheels were the AMG 20" on a 2013 ML550.
Just put a set of LTX 275x45x20 on my 2013 ML550 with Air Suspension. Needless to say, I'm monitoring the ride quality very closely. But, so far, so good.
I replaced a set of Conti DWS with about 35,000 on them. They had become pretty noisy and were riding hard as you would expect with them nearing end of life. Tire shop put 50 lbs of air, but even over-inflated, they rode extremely quiet and smooth. On good roads, there was little difference in Sport and Comfort modes. On my street which has always been noticeably rough, they continued to ride fairly rough, although not as bad.
So, with the first 30 or 40 miles on them, I am relieved they seem to be cooperating with the Air Suspension. I had a 2016 GLE rear wheel drive as a loaner a week ago for 4 days, and my 2013 drives almost a light and quick as it did even with all wheel drive and a V8. Needless to say, the V8 puts the 6 to shame, but that has nothing to do with the tires.

I put 275/45R20 Yokohama Parada Spec-X on my 2013 ML550 with AIRMATIC and couldn't be happier with them. They've been on for about a year. Ride is nice, quiet, handles well... solid in both rain and snow.

Can you post pictures from the side on how the 275 tire sits on the 20" amg rim please. Thanks!
