Cold start timing chain rattle.
If on starting your engine when its cold you get a four or five second chain rattle. There is a fix for this Take this topic Number to your dealer. L105-10-P-056435 (TSB) Version 1, Design Group 05.10, Camshaft drive. Date 07-16-2013. Validity Engine 276, 278, 157.
Brought my 2013 ML350 to Dealer with this information for this problem. They changed out chain tensioners. Install check valves etc. Hope this helps someone.

I Posted this thread. If you go on line the problem is very common. I'm in phoenix and the local MB Dealer took care of it right away. Make sure that they start the motor when its cold. You may need to leave the car overnight as I did. Try another Dealer with that information that I gave you. I can send you a copy of the repair if needed.

Today I just posted problem with my ML350 blue efficiency,
which seems to be quite similar to yours. Actually it can be chain rattle in my case as well.
Did you diagnose the car during that time, have you got the code for this malfunction?
In my case code is P002177 (by Xentry program).
Description is camshaft position different from given,
Given cannot be reached, Bank1 intake.
Trying to google it but nothing worthy comes up.
Anyways if you would post repairs, would be great. Might be this will help
me greatly.
My post is: camshaft positioning problem P002177, 2012 ml350 4matic gasolin.
from today.
Many thanks
