We have a 2102 ML350 and lately the lighting the door sill of the driver's door has progressed from flickering to not working. Any ideas how to go about fixing it?

I have pretty similar problem - drivers door sill is flickering so far at 20% brightness. Dealer quoted me around $600 to replace it(they said - open circuit). They don't fix it as rebuild some kind of contact or so, they just install new part. In my case every problem was caused by corrosion.
