heated/cooling cupholders not working

heated/cooling cupholders not working
Today I actually bought a coffee and I wanted to use my heated cup holder and its not working at all.
When you push the button to heat, the light on the button switch turns red and the cup holders light up red.
when you push the button again for cooling, the little light on button turns blue and the cup holders turn blue.
Nothing is working, actually on the button switch the light remains red and nothing happens. Feels like something shorted out.
any idea what to check for? is this still under factory warranty ? my ML is 3 years old and has 30,000kms (18K miles). Canadian model.
