CLK 240 Coolant light coming on, engine stalling- related?

CLK 240 Coolant light coming on, engine stalling- related?
I have a 2003 CLK 240. A few days ago, the coolant light came on. I checked the level and it was OK, and after that the coolant light stayed off until last night. Since then, it's come on every time I started the car, although the reservoir level is still fine.
Today, while a friend was driving it, the AC compressor cut off, followed by the car complete stalling. She was able to start it up again after a few minutes and has reported no other issues. (I'm getting this info second-hand so I apologize for not being able to go into more detail).
Anyone encountered this before? Does this sound like a cooling system issue?
