just an update, i attempted to take it apart today, no luck. once i got the T20 screws out from the rear bottom tray, i was unable to remove/unlatch the plastic housing on the back that has the vents and heat/ac controls and ash tray, it wouldnt come off and i didnt want to break it.
i was able to pull the plastic back far enough to reach the opener spring and remove the spring, so at least now the passenger side arm rest stays closed. looking for more guidance on how to remove the black plastic housing on the rear of the center console. i wasnt able to find anything super helpful on youtube so far. one thread i found elsewhere indicated there are more screws that need to be removed and you have to access them by dropping the ash tray, but i wasnt able to figure out how to detach/drop the ash tray

i was sure i read everything, but just in case, i re read the whole thread and checked all the attachments. im still lacking a bit of extra info to avoid possibly breaking some plastic when taking apart the rear console.
attachment "Remove_install rear center console" is what i am stuck on. im able to remove the 2 screws (3) behind the rubber support (7), and it seems there are more screws that need to be removed hidden behind the flap (6), although im not quite sure how to remove the flap without breaking/stressing it. im basically stuck on #6 in that article "press flap (6) beyond stop point on center console (1) and unclip"
where/how do i unclip the flap? myanonmbw mentions # 3 "unlatch the tray with two/three paper method" what is a two/three paper method?
hopefully someone can elaborate the directions or link me to a video/more directions

When you open flap (the part ash tray is in) after you take out the two screws below it. It has a stop that keeps it from opening too far. I tried to bend the stop (plastic tab with a rubber cushion on it) It wouldn't move enough and I feared braking it. So I pushed the part that the stop contacts at the top and it freed the flap. after that you will see the other two screws.
No need to spend a fortune guys replace the plastic pin with steel. My spring pin broke as well. Find the spring, It's in there somewhere its a closed area. I sanded down the little part of the pin that was left to leave a flat surface. Take a small drill bit start with your fingers and twist the drill bit back and forth so the hole is exactly centered where the pin was. After you have a starter hole carefully drill the hole (I went all the way through). Find or buy a small nail that will fit loosely in the hole cut the head off and epoxy it in. If you choose not to cut the head off make sure the spring is installed and properly oriented before you epoxy the nail in the hole so you can get the spring on. Finally after the epoxy sets up reinstall.
I still have the two latches from the old box. (One is broken exactly as shown in bigfriggin’s photo, but the other one is intact). If you’re lucky, you broke the “other one” and can replace it with my intact one. I also have one spring — I don’t know if they are common across the latches; hopefully they are. Of course, I lost the one that went with the broken latch.)
I no longer have this vehicle and would be happy to mail you the latches and spring — if things work out, you’ve saved yourself the price of a new box. Just DM me your address and I’ll pop them in the mail. Might take a while because of the holidays.

I have an easy solution if you don't wish to remove console or portions of it: I drilled a small hole on the bottom front side of the right hand armrest and attached a small plastic tab (1x2" plastic shim) so that the lid is held down by the left hand lid. It takes a bit of getting used to (you must put the r.h. lid down first) but it works like a charm and took 5 minutes. I'll try and attach photos. Just be cautious to use a short screw and do not drill through the top of the armrest!
