40K miles maintnance

Hi,

I recently done with 40K miles B service, but my service adviser recommended the following services for my ML350 (gas).
  • Engine Air Filter replacement (part ordered, and will DIY it)
  • Fuel Injection Cleaning (I don't think it is necessary)
  • Form Optimization (I have no idea what this is)
  • Coolant replacement (at 40K?!?!?)
So, I am asking what is your thought on injection cleaning, form optimization, and coolant replacement.

I would check your manual for recommended services and follow the factory recommendations.

Thanks, but I already checked, and I don't see anything but the coolant replacement at 150k miles. I just want to make sure what I see is right and if I am not missing anything.

air filter - regardless of number of miles, check the condition of the filter and change it as necessary.
fuel injector cleaning - Use a bottle of Techron/Chevron or BG44 or similar product.
coolant replacement - I'd replace the coolant. Preventive maintenance goes a long way.
form optimization - either your service advisor [or you] must be smoking some thing :-)

Here is what was included in the quite for my ML diesel.
Oil & filter
Fuel filter (diesel only)
Cabin & dust filters
Air filters
Brake fluid flush

Nothing about coolant flush or form.

Side question: flushing coolant what are the steps?

If there is a pet-co*k valve on the bottom of the radiator, open that valve, drain all the coolant, close the valve, refill the tank, close the cap, start the car, and make sure there are no leaks once the coolant starts to flow. You may need to top-up the coolant after the coolants flows thru the system.

If there is no pet-co*k valve, I'd just disconnect lower radiator hose and let the coolant drain there. I have not looked under the radiator on ML350 to see if there is that valve...
