Service intervals 2014 vs 2015

I have a 2015 ML 350 and was looking at a maintenance manual for a 2014 ML . I compared them and noticed some major differences.

1. 2014 has a required chart and a recommended chart whereas the 2015 just has one chart

2. When comparing them many items like cabin air, spark plugs and etc times and mileage are different. One example is Spark plug change which the 2015 requires at 50,000 whereas the 2014 under the required chart is at 60,000. Other issues like changing both the Cabin Air and Combo charcoal filter are also different.

Items on the 2015 chart basically have the same time lines/mileage as the recommended chart on the 2014 but has items of both the 2014 recommended and required items.

Thoughts?

I guess at some point Mercedes realized that the service intervals for the 2014s weren't cutting it and they had more than the anticipated number of failures, so they decreased the mileage. Ideally you should be changing things when they get dirty or wear out, which in most cases is likely twice as often as the published service intervals, although in some cases it may be twice as long. It depends on your usage patterns and the environment in which you operate the car. If you live in a dusty area, you may need to change the air filter every 5000 miles; if you live at the South Pole, it is possible that you may never have to change it.
