2015 ML350 (W166) Brighter Halogen Bulbs
Thanks to all on the discussions of the halogen bulbs. I ended up purchasing Osram's NightBreaker halogen H7 bulbs. Installed them yesterday.
High beams really easy access from the engine bay. Turned off the covers, turned the lever, bulb unit came out. Pulled old bulbs off, installed new bulbs, replaced in their location and turned the lever to tighten them. Then replaced the covers. Done.
Low beams a little harder, but only because of the wheels. I turned the wheels inward (doing one side at a time) to get to the access panel. Pulled the plastic pins out holding the access panels, slid the panels up and they came right off. The covers were right there. Turned the covers off and the bulbs were right there. Turned the bulbs out, pulled the old bulbs off, installed the new bulbs and then re-assembled all parts.
I should have taken pictures - because the Osram NightBreaker bulbs are brighter. Not HID or LED bright, but brighter than the original halogens. I got to test them driving to work this morning in the rain. Before, when just low beams on, I couldn't see very much in the rain making driving dangerous. With the new bulbs, even in the rain, I could see the road. With high beams, I am able to see a good distance. I have an aiming issue that I have to tackle next, but just wanted to report on the Osram's NightBreakers. If you are looking for brighter halogens, these work. (Note, I was looking for brighter vision - not "whiter" look.)
