Correct we don't get them down here unless you pay for them.

Same as we don't get ashtrays!

I understand cars well (I build custom cars as a hobby and have kept my W163 running for 15 years) but I can't think of what turns on with the ignition that I can tap into to turn on the amplifier.

Forgive me if I’m wrong, but I would imagine that the fusebox is wired for a cig lighter fuse whether or not it is installed as an option. The fuse itself would likely be missing, but it should show up on any standard schematic.

If not, how about the head unit fuse?

Literally anything. Avoid more critical systems.
