2014 ML350 Bluetec engine sputtering in 1st gear at low speed

so my 2014 bluetech with 50k miles is sputtering in 1st gear (sometimes 2nd as well). typically happens under 25mph. after driving for 30 minutes its much less noticeable. i activated cruise control at 25 mph to see if it would sputter and it did. now this sputtering happens when i am very lightly on the gas petal. if i press down a little harder and give it sole fuel it seems like it kicks in and moves. no engine codes, no funny smells, no idling issue, doesnt sound like its running rough. any ideas what this could be?

When you say no engine codes -- what kind of scanner did you use?

Odds are it will go away in a week or two of driving (mine did) without throwing a cel or code (dealer claimed there was none). The car’s computer will adapt to it eventually and “smoothen” the jerkiness away. The down side is you might feel the vehicle drive more sluggishly afterwards. Much less torque.

If that seems to be the case, the fix to mine was a new turbo (excess spindle play). The second time it happened to me a year and a half later I was still under warranty but Mercedes did not find anything wrong with the vehicle and refused to diagnose the turbo. So I sold it. 2012 Ml350 bluetec with 40k miles.

What? That makes no sense. A car, especially these cars, don't "adjust" jerkiness and solve a problem and loose torque afterwards. There's something wrong with the truck If it didn't throw a code, you have a ****ty dealer diagnostic and should have gotten a second opinion.

Oh I had 3 dealers diagnose the problem the second time it happened. Your experience may be totally different than mine. Let’s hope it is.
