Steering Gear Housing Bolt Recall
https://mbworld.org/forums/m-class-w...nt-recall.html
i received a recall letter from MB. Here are some details in case anyone needs to look into it for their car, i wont write out everything word for word but this should provide sufficient info...
TC Recall # 2018724
MB Recall# 2019070002
year 2011-2017 M class, GLE, GL, GLS, C, E, GLK, GLC, CLS, and S vehicles
"the aluminum bolts of the steering gear housing cover and of the power pack could corrode due to moisture intrusion in combination with extreme climatic conditions and aggressive road salting. over time, under corrosion-prone conditions, fracturing of weakened bolts cannot be ruled out. in the unlikely event that all three mounting bolts break over time, the power pack could separate from the steering gear. as a consequence, although unassisted steering capabilities would remain, the power steering would fail, which could increase the risk of a crash."
when i called my local dealer i was asked to call back in a month or so due to lack of parts to complete the work for this recall.
while i wait for my dealer to get the parts, id like to visually inspect the bolts and also keep an eye on them, but i have no clue where the bolts are.
Does anyone know which bolts this recall is referring to and have a link for a video or parts diagram that could guide me in ensuring I look over the right bolts?
No photos in the link above. Can you ask the dealer service advisor which bolts will be replaced?
"a replacement of the steering gear housing bolts and the application of a corrosion protection coating to the gear housing or, if the bolts cannot be removed, a replacement of the steering gear itself."
how many bolts are there holding the steering gear housing? the letter stated "all three" so i assumed there were only 3 bolts holding the housing.
or do you mean try to get a part # for the bolts from them so we can maybe identify on a parts diagram?
i'd be curious if there are any statistics on that though
