Rough idle ML350 Bluetec

So, I finally got a chance to drive the ML again. The next cold startup after my "spirited" drive, and the idle was SLIGHTLY improved, but still pretty rough, and again, smoother, but still rough when fully warmed.
Then I read Trigital's post about resetting adaptations for air filter's. So I fired up Xentry and did a reset before the next drive. I'll be DAMNED if the ML didn't fire right up and immediately settled to a VERY smooth idle. Took it for a 40 mile drive, and it was smoother overall, and had improved throttle response. Thank you Trigital!
I have been replacing the filter's every 10K miles since I purchased it with 30K miles. I have never reset the adaptations when changing them. But, I can tell you that before I changed them 1K ago, the ML was exposed to quite a lot of wildfire smoke/ash when we had the major wildfires here last summer. Also, full disclosure the last two changes have been with aftermarket filters. These are the ones I used: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FGF7NZJ. As an ex mechanic, I have always been a big proponant of only using OEM parts. But my rationale for using the aftermarket, was based on all the recommendations to change filters on the OM642 more often than recommended by MB, I might as well use the aftermarket ones for the short interval. After this whole debacle, I may have to re-think that?
I would love to try the smooth running routine, but can't seem to find that in Xentry. Is it under the Adaptations or Tests tab?
Thanks to all for your insight into this issue.
If you want, we can syncronise over the weekend ( I am in Spain, so we have different time zones), and I can show you some tricks with Xentry over the internet.
My advice is only this: Use original Air Filter, change it when Assyst ask. Full stop!.
Assyst, on MB is dynamic....it calculates even how many times you open the door, ...also know about city/highway driving, temperature, etc.
When cluster tells, use Service Code, besides Service AB, ,B1, etc and find out what you need to change.
For oil, the same. Especially for markets with less experiences in premium diesels. Mobil, Petronas ( if available) and of course the OEM ( Petronas based), as MB change the policy after ended collaboration with Mobil and prices for OEM is ridiculous low. This policy add great value for this brand.
I especially upload a picture with a non-OEM Air filter ( made by one of biggest company in the industry, from M651 Engine, to see one of the main problems when people forget about " better is the enemy of the good"...

And probably as I have stated earlier in this thread, US and Canada have been kept in the dark regarding MB and emissions law suit. In other words nothing is happening and therefore NOX sensors are not replaced free of charge!!!!!

New NOx sensors and a copper catalyst as well as a bunch of other things will be replaced under a recall on all diesel MLs in the USA and Canada soon. It has not yet been officially announced by MB, but they are bringing in massive amounts of them. MBs cost of the recall is about $11-12K CAD per vehicle if that gives you an idea. I did post a link to an article earlier in a different thread.

So why do it? Because society won't help defray the costs of continuous emissions-related repairs. Damn, I'm 60. It's been 44 yrs since I ripped out emission controls on a vehicle.
When I built my big-block GMC Safari engine swap with a crate engine 502/502 Ramjet (which is definitely not a smog engine) back in 05', I insisted that the muffler shop add high-performance cats to the custom exhaust. So it ain't like I'm not trying.
The OR-642 is a great engine. The gingineers got screwed by the bean counters. Consequently, Blutec owners are the ultimate victims...

If there was no pending recall with an additional 5-year warranty on the most expensive components as well as damages payable to most owners and in particular to those that have had to spend money out of pocket on any such repairs, then I could see the potential benefit to one's wallet as I think the vast majority of Es, MLs and GLs still have a few years' worth of relatively reliable service left in them.
However, with MB agreeing to replace the most expensive emission control bits that usually fail and warranty them for 5 years, I can't see the financial benefit in doing a delete at this particular point in time. Even if the rest of the car is in relatively good shape now and they complete the retrofit late this or early next year, by the time that 5 year emission system warranty runs out, the cars will be 12-17 years old and likely in need of many other expensive repairs unrelated to the emission control system. That's why I can't see a delete being a viable option now.
