2012 ML350 Wheel Bearing Hubs

HELP! I'm ready to install new front wheel bearing hubs and need to know the correct torque for the 36MM spindle nut. I've read numbers anywhere from 78 ft pounds to 300 ft pounds. Can someone give me the correct torques for a 2012 ML350 4Matic? THANKS!!!

The collar nut, aka spindle nut, is a single use item per MB. If the nut is not replaced, the torque spec does not apply. This is addressed in the note AH00.00-N-0001-01A.

For a new collar nut the torque is multi-step:
1. torque to 250Nm
2. loosen by 180 degrees
3. tighten to 200Nm
4. tighten further by 30 degrees

See attached.

hello, chassis.
I'm a newbie too.
I have project for 4 shock replacement.
I bought bilstein b6.
all of tool be ready.
I order new axle nut.
but if I reuse axle nut, just tight is ok?
like you said reuse not apply torque.
because I have torque wrench( max torque is 150 foot pound)
If i use new nut, I need to buy high torque wrench.
😆😆
ChasssiS!!! Give your advisor.

Hello, Anybody!!!
Newbie is back for processing task.

Rear shock ( bilstein b6) replacereplacement was easy.
it's so easy. I watched YouTube several times.

Today I tried to replace front shock.( bilstein b6)
Remove ( sway bar link, upper arm bolt, shock bolt ( top, bottom), tie rod. Axle nut)
everything was well.
And when I remove outer axle , I use rubber hammer.
It doesn't move at all.
🤐🤐🤐🤐🤐
I know if I hit metal hammer, thread will ruin.
But I did.
Axle wasn't loose at all.
Im so upset. Because I have to do again same.
without remove or loose axle, I tried to compress by pry bar to lower control arm.
It's not work.
It seems like only the way that loose axle.
so I will rent hub puller at autozone.
lock on wheel bolt & hit it!!!

my mistake is hitting axle by metal.
when I lock axle nut by hand, it couldn't spin well.
thread is ruined.
So I use impact wrench.
Still lock by used axle nut.
I jammed axle nut end.
I will uploading my project.
W166 4 matic shocks replacement ( no air sus.)
coil spring shock.
Thanks!!

It sound like you need to buy a new axle shaft (halfshaft) because it was damaged by a hammer. Is this correct?

Halfshaft is separated from the wheel hub using a puller tool. You learned this the hard way. The hub spline is a press fit.

Axle nut should be replaced and torqued to the MB-specified torrque. There is no other manufacturer-approved assembly method. I recommend following the manufacturer's specifications.

Buy the proper parts and proper tools, and follow the proper procedures when working on these cars and you will have the best results.

hello, Everybody!!
Newbie back!!!
I did task for front spring shock replacement.
first !!!! Failed.
Easy replacement front spring shock is remove axle from transfer case.
I did.
I removed shock & axle.
Everything was fine.
I compressed spring shock by autozone oem spring compressor.
full compressed.
top plate of shock wasn't loose at all.
if I compress more, It could be dangerous.
so conculsion is like that.
Front spring shock replacement is best way that
Pull out axle from transfer case.
On YouTube, Google, I couldn't find good solution.
best is pull out axle.
And compressor is big issue to me.
I gonna search labor for front shock replacement at shop & mobile mechanic.
thanks for all if help from here.
See you next time!!
