Idle rattle / knock
So i have done some research here and have read about the tsb for both the tensioner and the wrist pins. The car was built later than the engines numbers listed for the wrist pin issue from my research. Also i think if that was the case the sound wouldnt necessarily go away while reving but not sure. The tensioner issue may be at fault but only if the tensioner is bad and not just dry on startup from low oil pressure which is most people's issues. The sound does seem to be coming from the drivers side but maybe more towards the middle not the top.
I have used a stethescope on the pulleys with nothing sounding abnormal. The car runs great and my wife hasnt really even noticed it until i brought it up because she doesnt listen to her car from outside of it. No check engine lights and nothing seems like a vibration issue that i can tell so far.
Im going to take a look at the oil filter housing assuming it has to do with oil pressure at idle and the tensioners. Yes i checked the oil and even added some to see if the noise deadened or changed. For reference i only use mobile 1 0-40 and change at 5000 miles. This noise was not present when i did the oil change in january that i could tell.
questions:
Any ideas or experience with this?
Is there a test or way to know if the tensioner or actuator is bad without pulling it apart?
Is there a way to tell if the orings on the filter are bad? Probably just gona change the filter anyways though.
Can a bad or stuck cam magnet go bad without throwing a code. On my v8 it threw a cam magnet code before i knew anything was wrong. I ask this because the drivers side of the engine sounds like air circulating in the top end which i really dont know how to describe other than a cylinder not firing but still no misfire codes. Maybe bad gas not igniting at idle.
Is there a secret menu to check oil pressure on the dash?
Thanks for you time.
