Ambient lighting not optional
Hi guys first mercedes I've owned I've got a ml350 bluetec 2013 model, it seems that I don't even have the option of the 3 ambient lighting settings on the dash so I'm guessing this part of the package deal when the vehicle was new wasn't selected so my question is can you get ambient lighting software installed onto the comand and then I know I have to change out the whole dash and door cards to fit new lights, but just wanted to know if it was possible to put it in there if the vehicle didn't have it to start with cheers guys

Mercedes-Benz provides ambient lighting as standard equipment, adding ambient light is not required. But you can add more aftermarket kits.
The ambient lighting can be operated as follows
The ambient lighting can be operated as follows
- Press the home button on your display screen
- Go to vehicle settings
- Click on light settings
- Click on ambient light
- select the desired colour
- Preset colour options are also available in the same menu.

Please use the search function and search for the word "ambient" in the W166 forum. It will come up with over two dozen results and answer all of your questions and then some. It has been discussed ad nauseum in the past.

I have it from factory on mine (was a standalone option I went with). If you want to retro to the factory lighting, I wouldnt recommend it. MB overengineered the system, and the door panels are different dash is different. Ive had my doors off and the LED units are integrated into the revised doors...channels in there, formed LED enclosures, wood trim is different to house the strips etc. Doesnt look like just different wood trim, there are molded channels in the inside of the door to mount the strips and associated wiring. This isnt an easy upgrade. Unknown if you can tell onboard computer you have it to turn on...prob requires dealer reprogram. Problem with these cars is that the program is VIN specific, so it isnt easy to just flip options on.
