Intermittent CEL with codes for exhaust gas temprature sensor 4, bank 1...
About 2 weeks ago, I started my ML and saw the CEL appear. Plugged in my scanner and got codes for the exhaust temperator sensor 4, bank 1. No noticeable symptoms. The next day I did a long highway drive and when I started the ML the morning after, the CEL was gone! Now the CEL came back on yesterday morning. I did some highway driving and this morning the CEL is gone again.
The CEL/issue seems to appear more often on hotter days when I do more city driving. Since this falls under the AEM warranty, I scheduled an appointment with my local MB dealer for them to take a look at it, but they're fully booked for the next 2 months! Again, when the CEL appears, there are no noticeable symptoms. The suv runs great.
Now, I'm no mechanic expert. What is going on? Is the exhaust temperature sensor going out? Is it related to the DPF regen? Would it be possible that the EGR pipe is the culprit? I've never cleaned it and I've seen videos where they clog up from all the soot. If anyone has experienced this before and has a solution, I'd be interested to read about it.
