2 problems: SRS light and front collision assist

Hey everyone,

2013 ML350 BT 290 000 KM (~180 000 miles).

Problem #1: SRS red light appeared and is now permanently on. According to my Autel scanner, the code is for the front right impact sensor (see pictures). I ordered one from eBay with the same part number and everything. I installed it and cleared the code but the problem still persists. The wires all look good so I'm not sure what is going on.

Problem #2: Pre-safe functions limited. Everything on the suv works except the front collision assist/prevention. My Autel scanner points to the front radar sensor. I opened the front grill and the radar sensor looks fine. No signs of bloating or massive corrosion from the outside. I'll try to find one with the same part number. The radar is original from 2012/2013, but I guess the part has a newer/updated version. From my understanding, if the part number changes, it'll need coding correct?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks guys.

Original/defective crash/impact sensor.

Quick update.

Managed to solve the SRS problem. Turns out that my old sensor was good because the problem was with the wiring. I put my suv on the lift and noticed something wrong with the wiring underneath the vehicle. The wire was heavily damaged so I changed it and cleared the SRS code. Voila! Problem fixed. My guess is that, over time, the road salts during winter and all the other crap corroded the wire (I live in eastern Ontario Canada).

If you ever get this problem, check the wiring of the crash sensor that goes underneath the suv first before ordering a new sensor!

I'll tackle problem #2 next. Does anyone know the latest part number for the new updated front collision assist radar sensor? If it needs coding, can an indy shop do it? Or only the dealer?

TYIA!

Quick update.

Managed to solve problem #2. Waited patiently for a good eBay deal for a front sensor with the same serial number as mine. I received the new sensor, installed it and voila! Problem solved, my "pre-safe warning" message on start-up is gone and my front collision warning is now working. I added silicone around the sensor and the plugin entry to prevent water or road junk from going in. It should be problem free forever now!

It seems that if you buy a used part with the same part number as your defective part, you won't have to code it. So if you face the same problem, be patient and hunt for a deal!
