2014 ML500 (mx) ride height issues
I tried a hard reset on the battery, no difference.
Had a look at the ride height sensors and didnt conclude much.
Any pointers on where to go from here?

I'd also check the links that connect to the sensors and their joints. My links ended up being bent and very tough to move. Once i replaced the plastic links on all 4 sensors my ride height fixed itself after a raise and lower. Easy/cheap fix for something i thought might be a bigger airmatic problem.
i'd visually inspect and clean the sensors, links, and the connections, then do an OBD scan with something that can read the ride height sensors and any codes.
It's also possible that the car had been programmed for a lower ride height, some people like the lowered look and there are ways to program the airmatic to sit lower.
