TPMS Questions
I periodically perform a full scan of all of the car's modules and perform engine live data monitoring with my diagnostic scanner tablet (but without the TPMS sensor RF/wireless diagnostic reader capability). The only code that I have started seeing recently came up a little over two months ago and is from the TPMS module:
I have a few questions:
C159916 (The battery of the tire pressure sensor has a malfunction. The limit value for electrical voltage has not been attained.).
- Tire pressure monitoring seems to be working fine right now (and I'm not getting any error messages in the car's cluster), but one or more of the TPMS sensors seems to have a battery that is just getting weak, I presume. Is that correct? I don't know if they had ever been replaced under the previous owner when he replaced the tires.
- Has anyone had any experience purchasing Genuine Mercedes OE TPMS sensors (MB part #: A 000-905-00-30) on eBay? It seems that there are a bunch of U.S.-based sellers offering sets of these for a fraction of what they cost at the Mercedes-Benz dealerships... Sophisticated counterfeiting?
- Are the Schrader OEM TPMS sensors perfectly fine as replacements over the Genuine Mercedes ones, which cost over 2x as much? How about Schrader's aftermarket TPMS sensors for MB (part #: 20213)? They are about a third of the cost of the Genuine Mercedes units. If these are fine alternatives, I might just replace all of the sensors with the Schrader units when I get a new set of tires instead of with Genuine Mercedes ones.

TPMS Sensors
I had a similar problem with my 2014 ML350. I had a failing battery on the right rear wheel. When I got new tires I replaced all 4 with Autel MX-sensor Dual Frequency (315Mhz-433Mhz) $119 from Amazon.
I cloned all four to the original serial # and they have worked flawlessly for the last 4-5 months.
