Option 508 (NAVIBOX PREINSTALLATION) - Retrofit
Amazing on long journeys. Just one issue with it and that it does not have the factory installed "Option 508 (NAVIBOX PREINSTALLATION)" and the data card is not showing it either (early 2012 build). However, it does have satellite navigation and I have used it a few times (not the best but not the worst either, just getting old now).
I also have a 2013 W204 which has a Becker Cradle with 508 (NAVIBOX PREINSTALLATION). After installing the CARABC Apple car play module, it has really uplifted the whole experience.
The question is; can the Becker Cradle be retro fitted to the W166 which didn't come with the factory Code 508 (NAVIBOX PREINSTALLATION).
I am seeing a lot of these cradles on ebay. Most of them are just the cradles by themselves and some have their wires cut couple of inches. See pictures. I don't mind losing the inbuilt satnav as long as I can access Apple Car play.
I am assuming the GPS cable and the power cable will be straight forward, its the third cable I am worried about and coding it, if any.
Data Card codes which might help:
518 UNIVERSAL COMMUNICATIONS INTERFACE (UCI)
527 COMAND DVD APS WITH NAVIGATION
537L GREAT BRITAIN AND NORTHERN IRELAND
81P COMAND WITH NAVIGATION UPDATE
U72 DVD PLAYER WITH REGIONAL CODE 2, EUROPE, JAPAN
Many thanks in advance.

Also all Radio Audio 20 NTG 4.5 has a lower video resolution as the display is always smaller compared with the display used on Comand setups.
In your case with Option Code 527 COMAND DVD APS WITH NAVIGATION, the Cradle is not documented as a retrofit - as Comand has internal Navigation on HDD and need a higher video resolution for the big display.
You can easily choose any other Carplay Interface compatible with your Comand NTG4.5.
I will look into the other options. The CARABC solution is plug n play and doesnt invlove tearing the HU so that really attracted me.
Will update once i find a solution and time to update.
