TSB LI105.10-P-056435 Check Valve PN

Hey Everyone

New member here Recently bought my frist MB , 2012 ML350. Being a bit old am working on few things ( Tranmission Oil, wheel bearings, etc...). The cold start rattle noise is really bugging me and I'm planning to DIY the TSB myself. My question: How do I figure out the right PN for thr check valves ? Seems like there are 2 different types ( flush surface and stepped bore apparently ? ). I can't find any reference that shows me how to find out the correct one for my car. I hope I don't have to open up the car first to find out lol.

Go to FCP Euro website
plugin your car year/model...
they sell a job kit that includes everything necessary.
really convenient!

Yup ! Saw it, and there's only one review saying they sent the wrong check valves I'd buy the other valves too just in case but I live in Canada. Return might be a pain....

Call them up on the phone they may be able to trace the exact check valve your VIN needs.

Startup rattling may be associated with... :
VVT Gear, chain tensioner, check valve or low oil pressure
...meaning not 100% check-valve.

Thank you ! Will try to do that.

I think being a 2012 with 112,000 km, the most likely case is that I don't have the check valve in the first place. Its only upon morning cold start, no oil pressure warning and oil level is stable. Is there a way to figure out if it's something else other than the check valve and the timing tensioner?

yes, you need to inspect the VVT gears are locked by removing CPS and using that as ports access

Cam adjuster

Does the starter engage a bit longer sometimes than others (usually then followed by the chain tapping noise)? If that happens, most likely cam adjuster(s). Gear on front side of cam above the tensioners. Usual culprits of the chain slap are check valve missing, chain tensioner bad, cam adjuster bad. The longer start cycle is an indication that cam adjuster(s) need to be replaced...they wear internally.
