I’ve been reading about the oil in harness issue, and noticed my harnesses for camshaft solenoids and camshaft position sensors seem to have breaks in the outer jacket, near the connectors.
Did Mercedes already make changes in my 2014 ML350 to prevent this destructive phenomenon?
I don’t see how oil would get pumped through this type of harness, with the breaks in there….
The oil actually gets in and travels via capillary action inside the wire between strands and the insulation, not the jacket. Pull connectors off and look inside those for oil.

inspect actual parts for leaks...
Point being that solenoids are not primary leakers but Cam sensors are guaranteed to leak.
-- Short term remedy is new sensor + sacrificial extension.
-- Long term fix is prevent the extreme heat accumulation.
