Valve Cover Gaskets

My S65 Driver side valve cover is leaking. Previous owner replaced driver side coil pack before selling car. It a bad leak, runs down side of the block. Probably what toasted the coil pack. Has anyone did a valve cover gasket before? anything to watch out for? should start on the S65 tomorrow just looking for any and all information

When I did my plugs at 60K I had a small leak in the back on the passenger side. Oil had dripped down on to the heat shield. Many of the bolts in the valve cover were loose. I torqued them down (as Plutoe said be careful and do not over tighten them) and have had no leaks since. I just did my plugs again at 120K and everything is clean and dry. So depending on the severity of the leak(s) it might just be loose bolts.

I ordered new bolts to do the valve cover change. After inspecting the front bolts, they were hand loose. I will replace all the valve cover bolts with new and retorque...

On your 275.980 the torque is as follows: Stage I=4Nm, Stage II=120 degrees

Don't screw things up if you don't know Stage II then google and make damn sure that the gasket is correctly placed and seated before torqueing!!

A few of my bolts were very loose as well on the passenger side. Noticed when I was swapping a bad coil pack out. I didn't have the torque specs at the time, so I just snugged each bolt down without over-torquing. I didn't want to damage the aluminum heads.

They loosen as the gasket compresses. I did mine when I was doing all the work on the car a couple months back. I had a coil pack come apart on the right side, which was unfortunate/expensive, but the valve cover gaskets weren't that bad at all.
