Urgent - Need Help/Advice with M275 Motor Mount Replacement
Hello all,
I've met with a terrible fate...
I have a 2003 S600. My ABC high pressure hose burst last week after making bad groaning noises - I suspected it was squished between the engine and subframe due to sagging motor mounts (which was correct). I first went through and got the hose replaced, but the terrible groaning noises are still there for obvious reasons.
I did lift the engine slightly with a jack to make sure it is indeed the motor mounts sagging enough to squish the high pressure line which causes vibrations throughout the chassis, and I was right - the noise completely went away once the engine was lifted slightly.
So here is my dilemma now - I cannot replace these motor mounts myself, and neither can my indie mechanics. I've inquired at other local shops and they quote me upwards of 2k - 3k which is just silly. I've heard of the job being done for much less.
Is there anyone here who knows of a repair shop in SoCal that can do these motor mounts for a reasonable price? I've heard of some you have got them done for less than $1,500. Any help here would be really appreciated. Thank you.

Where have you heard of getting them done for less? In most cases unless your car received the updated mount arms at an earlier service visit, it requires pulling the engine to change the mounts. Nobody is going to take that on for cheap. I did mine by lowering the subframe since I was also replacing an ABC line that blew out, so the subframe needed to come down anyway, and it was a terrible job.

I think the part number for the replaced mount is A2752232004.
The improvement being that the motor mount itself is mounted on a supporting plate, which is screwed to the mounting arm, which can be unscrewed from the mounting arm allowing you to replace the engine mount much quicker.

Haven't done this job yet myself, but here's what I know...........
The engine mounting arms for the V12 SL are different from those used on the V12 CL and S models. There is no earlier/later version for the SL, there is no version for the SL that has the separate intermediate plate that would make the job much easier.
I spoke to Sean at VVK Suspension, who has replaced the motor mounts on a V12 SL. He said they supported the engine from the top with a support bar like this one, then removed the front subframe. Then lowered the engine a few inches to get access to the bolts holding the mounting arms to the engine block. He said it was still a little tricky, had to use a swivel wrapped in tape to keep it a little stiff. It's still a fair bit of work, but still a lot easier than a full engine-out.
I decided I'd rather have some heavy-duty mounts that should last the lifetime of the car, so I got a pair of billet/polyurethane mounts from East Coast Euro for my SL600. I'll be installing them in a few months. The tradeoff is the billet/polyurethane mounts will be a bit less smooth than the factory hydraulic mounts, but most reports are that the difference is very small. I got the VVK coilover kit with sway bars, so I'll be installing the front sway bar at the same time (coilovers are already in).

Goodness! Everyone makes as though engine mounts in 275 powered cars require three days of labor to do!
My first time doing them in the 221 car took 3-4 hours. Just not that big a deal. On the hoist.... support the engine with a screw jack. Remove fasteners for steering rack and let it hang. Remove fastener that holds ABC hose from subframe to R/F strut. Remove fasteners for subframe and let it hang on suspension arms. There is enough room.
If any of you get lost or are just afraid of doing them I’ll do them. $600 + mounts.
All the fasteners go back in and no drama. Has to happen on a day off.
