How were you planning to start the engine up?
I ask because I have done a swap in an older Subaru.
The ECU is coded to a drive authorization module and at minimum to a key and to an ignition switch.
In order to start up, you would need: The ECU, the matching key, the matching drive authorization module and sometimes many other things such as: The instrument cluster, maybe the front and rear SAM's

2003 E55 6 speed manual, 2005 Speedriven CL65, 2006 CL55
on the 03-06 models, there is a 3 part drive authorization system- ECU, EIS, steering column lock. you can ship your EIS and this ECU out to Mercedes Swap Shop in california, and they'll VIN match it. For 07 and above, I have no idea. I'd assume it's about the same.

I’ve still got the engine- I have now completely rebuilt/refreshed it, and am currently building billet turbos to go along with it. Plan is to swap the 65 motor into my 55. Everything has a price though, so send me a message and we can chat.
