2018 R8 V10+, Ford Raptor, 991.1 Turbo S, and a Toyota
For any interested buyers I have been in the process of trying to work out a final deal with this seller for some about a week. After negotiation of the final price and agreements, some things started popping up. As unbiased as I can be, here's what transpired:

Pros:
  • Communication has been pretty solid
  • High build CPO at a solid price
  • Seemed like a nice person
Cons:
  • Vehicle doesn't have a title yet. When requesting information about the title I was told that the title was on the way and should arrive next week. A week later it hasn't arrived, but do understand that COVID is slowing things down a bit. Seller wanted to proceed with the transaction while the title arrived and I got a little spooked.
    - When asking for proof of the tile request, was sent a photo of the registration purchase that was expired
    - When I asked a few more question, the title was lost and seller is requesting a secondary title
    - The vehicle was purchased in 1/19, but over 1.5 years later there is no title? Seemed odd, but I've been wrong before
    - Seller will be moving out of country soon, so it will be impossible for me to do anything if I'm wrong
  • The vehicle isn't under this seller's name, but claims they have a power of attorney (saw a few pages) and that they are authorized to sell. Personally didn't feel comfortable purchasing the vehicle without an easy transfer of ownership
    - When asking about registration if I did proceed this way, it turns out it hasn't been registered for months (Jan / 2020 exp in Cali - Vehicle is in AZ), but "I've been driving it around that way and never had a problem" was the response. Also offered a 3 day permit, but it doesn't allow much time to get the title in order
    - When asking about the person's address, it was given that it was the same as theirs (so why not have that seller transfer)
    - I have no idea why this person doesn't represent themselves. If they're deceased, is this person an executor? I'm by no means a lawyer, but I've had my father's power of attorney for some time and that didn't allow me just to go sell his house.
    - This doesn't make sense to me as if the ownership was clear to the seller, then register it in the state you live in
  • The vehicle has some damage. Two were pointed out the first time I saw the vehicle, I had to ask about the third piece of damage.
    - There is a dent in the rear quarter panel on the body line (1.5k repair), but it's pretty minor
    - A few wheels have road rash on them. Seller has a wheel warranty and stated that if I called and said I was this person, they would cover it. I don't like mimic'ing someone else, but seller was willing to take it in and complete
    - Some small paint scrapes on the front of the vehicle
  • Hey, so it's a used vehicle. It has some stuff wrong, that's fine... I get it. We agreed to have the dent fixed (because of the paint/dent warranty) at the negotiated price. Seller took it to the dealership and the dent was not covered so the seller didn't want to fix it
    - I tentatively agreed to take the vehicle with the damage since it was minor, even though I know it will drive me nuts
Lastly and openly - I was getting ready to hand over a check / purchase yesterday, but then had a setback with work where they're forcing a relocation. I asked for some leeway on the price due to the new cost of relocation and we reached a final deal (-$500 previously negotiated value). I was hesitant to purchase, but we were trying to get this deal done for some time and felt bad for holding up the vehicle for the seller. Ultimately, I backed out of the deal as there are too many red flags for me.

Good luck to the seller and anyone interested in it.

A few years ago I bought a 15k mi 2008 SL65 (my second one) - sight unseen, on the other side of the country. The deal went like this:
I first saw it on Auto Trader and I called the dealer and said I wanted the car. We negotiated a price and I asked for wire transfer instructions. “We don’t do wire transfers.” What? Then I noticed that the car was on Ebay, so I did a buy it now, and paid the $1k deposit with a CC. The contact was now different, and he referred me to the Sales Mgr at a MB dealer who said he would handle the deal. OK. I call that guy - nice guy - and he said he was selling the seller a new AMG and he would handle my sale through one of his “partners”. A little weird, but OK, please send me the wire instructions. He did, but the bank then said it wouldn’t go through - problem at the other end. Now it’s starting to smell. I call the MB guy and he gives me new, different, wire instructions. I google street view the address and it’s not a dealer, but a house. A rather dumpy looking house. So I give my wife the new wire instructions - she handles the money - and she looks at me with a AYFKM? I call the MB Sales Mgr and he convinces me it’s really OK, so we wire the money. It goes through, but now I can’t get a hold of the MB guy. For 2 weeks. Finally get him on the phone and he apologizes and explains that he was in the hospital for a “surgical procedure”. My wife is giving me dirty looks, but I assure her I’m not worried because he’s the MB Sales Mgr - and it’s one of the biggest dealers. A few weeks later I finally get the car. It’s perfect.

I'm happy to let you know that the car was sold the same week we disagreed and the buyer received his title the same day with plates and registration.
