The biggest problem with the Maybach is that it is still a MB and looks like an overgrown S Class. The Rolls Royce and the Bentley look sufficiently different from their prospective owners, ie BMW and Volkswagen that there is a perceived difference and a much higher value placed on them.

Sorry, I was at Euromotor's in Bethesda the other day and they had 3 of them sitting on the showfloor. One had been there at least 6 months. Unfortunately there aren't many takers for a $493K when you can get a RR or Bentley for less.

+1. With the W220 S you could tell the difference. Now with the W221, for most people they can look very similar from the back (the W221 and the maybach that is). With a Bentley or Rolls Royce, you know its a Bentley or Rolls Royce. The same goes with buying a S/CL/S65 vs buying a 550. Most people (a good 8/10) can't tell the difference. I've had friends confuse our previous 07 C230 with our 02 CL500 (both are white). I would just look at them like wtf, but they don't know the difference really.

I think for some, such as myself, if I were to buy a Maybach over an RR or Bentley is actually because it's so subtle and understated from the outside. The general masses will associate it with 'just' a Mercedes and that's fine, in fact that's good. For those who like to be low profile, yet want something absolutely unique and comfortable on the inside, the Maybach isn't anywhere as 'loud' as a Bentley or RR. The Bentley or RR interior cannot beat a Maybach, esp the 62.

But if you are buying this car and wants attention for it, you have Bentley and RR for that.
