Run Flat Tires

I absolutely love my C63s!! My one and only disappointment is the road noise. I know the car is equipped with run flat tires and I was wondering if anyone has or would suggest changing out the run flats to help with the road noise. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

While they are a good safety feature, maybe, I personally hate the weight and stiffness of the run-flats. Changing out to a conventional tire, in my experience, greatly improves the ride, handling, and noise levels in the car.

I have never seen an AMG equipped with RFT from the factory.

Ever. Same goes for BMW M cars.

Are you sure you have RFT? What is the tire brand and model?

In North America, W205 C63s have been coming with either Michelin PSS or Dunlop Sport Maxx RT tires. Neither of those sets are RFT; they're max performance summer tires.

+1

I can't speak for the Dunlop tires, but having had both the PSS and several varieties of RFT on previous cars, I can say that PSS are much quieter and more comfortable than any RFT I have ever encountered.

Both current generation BMW M3/4 and C63 models use the PSS and still exhibit a fair amount of tire/road noise. In part I suspect there is less sound insulating material to reduce weight in this generation.

Yes you guys are correct! The tires are not run flats! Went to the dealer yesterday for a set of conventional tries and was educated on the fact that conventional tire are already on the car. The problem was the fact that the tire pressure was 48psi. The dealer deflated them down to 39 and WOW! Definitely not the same car! There is still road noise but the high pitch humming is totally gone.

Thanks guys!

What does the tag behind the fuel door recommend for front and rear pressure?
I know the one on door frame is wrong and only for EPA.

The inside of the gas door says 19" under normal loads should be filled to 38 psi front and 33 psi rear.

That makes kind of sense as the car and driver article says % weight front and rear is 54.3% front and 45.7% rear

It also shows that the 46 lbs. that they put in the rear tires hurt the 0-60 and quarter mile numbers. wonder what they put in the other cars?
