Just out of interest, do you have the performance exhaust or STD?

I somehow have the feeling that the performance exhaust sounds different and "sharper" but I would even say the STD exhaust is louder on the C63 BT.
But the possibility to make is quiter with the flaps is a nice thing, especially on longer trips...

I am sure DPs will come out shortly by several tuners, been at RENNtech (Germany) yesterday, they have a prototype ready but their C63 was "in pieces" so I couldn't get a sound check...

I have the performance exhaust, it does sound awesome but I am a dude that likes my cars loud! Since there are 4 cats on this car I am going to assume that deleting them will make a MAJOR sound difference. Remember you got the turbos (which quiet the car down on their own) then a cat right behind the turbo, then one slightly down stream. I can't wait to hear what it sounds like w DPs

I believe the perf exhaust components are downstream and seperate from the downpipes.

Unless you are planning on going with aftermarket catback?

From my small amount of experiences w AMG I have come to the conclusion that the stock cat back systems are pretty decent quality and they have great sound. The game changer comes when replacing the downpipes. Taking the next step and replacing the catback will yield a better sound but not as much as replacing the DPs. The only thing I don't like about these cars is how the exhaust tips are molded to the bumper so if you DO replace the catback it still looks stock.

I would LOVE to see Akrapovic drop a titanium system for this car. It would be significantly lighter AND Akrapovic always goes the extra step and changes the molded exhaust tips. If they made something similar to the SLS set up I will be all over that!

Most gains come from eliminating the primary cats in the downpipes. A catback will change the sound, but won't be close to the gains from a set of catless downpipes.

Dropping the transmission does not sound fun... it's a good thing a simple ECU tune will be more than enough for most people!

Most likely going to cut them boyz out. IMO you spend 5k easy for a catback, I still have a feeling it won't change the sound that much because the cats are so restrictive. So for 5k you are not going to get much for your dollar

The labor alone would probably be close to the cost of the downpipes themselves... And then the question is, what happens when you need warranty work done? Messing with emissions will toss up warranty issues, not to mention you're bolting aftermarket parts directly to the turbochargers -- so if you have issues down the road, it wouldn't surprise me if you're flagged and voided.

Some dealerships/SA's might be cool with downpipes, but there is always a risk of voiding your warranty -- especially since it involves extensive work (i.e. dropping the transmission).

I believe EC does warranty work... so where there's a will there's a way.

It will all dep on the gains for the dp's...... 50 hp.. MEH....... 100 HP get's interesting.

We will have to wait and see the difference on the dyno before and after with down pipes.
Down pipes with upgraded turbos and an ECU tune will get you more from your $$ but don't expect a lot more HP from just the downpipes by themselves. Noise a definite yes but you will be paying a pretty penny for it.
