I think it kinda' sucks 'cause having Bridgestone adn Michelin in F1 has made for some great consumer tires for us..

Politics, pressure, and threats? Or are they really going to withdraw...? You know that the involvement had to have some positive effect on tire technology advancement. Although it may result in F1 being more competitive, taking the tire variable out. Very interesting....

AMG
They have the '06 season to sort it out. I'm certain that the retirement of Michelin's Pierre Dupasquier hasn't helped the negotiating process any.

As for it making F1 more competitive.. I think it will make it like Nascar.. Same cars, same engines, same everything. That isn't the pinacle of racing to me..

Going around in a circle, and having a two-lap race after yellow every week isn't the pinnacle of racing to me; but F1 cars do road courses, and without differences in tires (other than the choice of wet or dry and when you change to fresh rubber) car set-up and driver style is going to be that much more important -- for the racing part of it, that's not such a bad thing IMO.... But I still think that it's politics and that Michelin will not end up pulling out after 2006.

F1 is really the pinnacle of motrosport. All those who whine about boring races and lack of competitiveness don't really understand what they're looking at, and what it takes to be half a second a lap faster... every lap.

its too bad they are leaving.. this will leave the current Michelin teams a couple seconds slower on the track compared to the bridgestone teams. Toyota made the right move and got a head start with their car on Bridgestone tyres. Hopefully McLaren will be able to build a great car regardless

Remember that sales pitch, "you've got alot riding on your tires" ?

Well, looks like I'll be riding on another brand. Michelin's statement indicated that they support other forms of racing....like what? NASCAR? I couldn't care less about NASCAR.

As a motorsports fan, I ONLY support those companies who support my hobbies (racing, online forums, drifting), etc.

I urge others to share in this simple philosophy...and to be very public about it.

Chill, Winston!
I'm sure they'll continue to be at European LeMans Endurance and American LeMans, the various Touring Car Championships, either Champ or Indy, all of the F2/F3 etc. series, all of the GT series, and I wouldn't be surprised to find them at WRCC and A1GP (I'm not even going to mention Nascar, 'cause we're talking about racing, here). Although F1 is the pinnacle of them all, it is not the only series!
To paraphrase? "They can pry my Michelins off of my cold, dead car!"
