I have to do it -- I want to lap Indianapolis in a Veyron when they do the season-ticket-holder laps before the race(!) How cool would that be?!!!

I'll be loking for a Veyron at Indy then. Shouldn't be too hard to distinguish...

HAHAHAHA!

I know a whole bunch of people who do Indianapolis - both the 500 and the F1. Always get invited. I just don't really like Indy that much - the track or the place.....

Three years ago they started the lapping thing, I think, and I was going to do it in an Ultima GTR. Two years ago for sure they were doing it and I was going to be in a CGT. Last year it was going to be in an SLR. Never went, never did it.

This year? Aaaaahhhhh...maybe this year. In a Veyron. Perfect!

I have news for you... the lap of Indy happens the day AFTER the USGP (or 364 days before the next USGP if you're technical), and it is BEHIND A PACE CAR!!! So I don't know what your GM's have been telling you, but it is not the all out drive you are thinking about.

Oh, and the only thing you need to do it is to be there and renew your tickets on Monday. You can bring the Yugo for all they care.

I have been to Indy, Hockenheim and Spa, and I have to say that Indy is right up there for 'watching' the race... The turn 6 and turn 10 grandstands are about as close to the action as you can get in any track, and the Grandstands -oh the grandstands-, the way 19,000 RPM reverberates on those main straight grandstands makes the Indy start and first few laps one of the most memorable, heart-pounding moments in racing, in my "informed" opinion.

Well that nixes it, then. The idea of zipping around Indy at speed as a part of the weekend had appeal for me.....

I have had the chance to go to Indy numerous times with people I know who test there all the time, but I've never taken them up on it. I have never considered renting Indy for a day either. I don't like the ovals, or tri-ovals - just like I don't really appreciate NASCAR - going around in a circle in a car isn't my idea of fun. I like the road courses.

If I wanted to do some higher-speed testing or driving, I would choose a different track than Indy, that's for sure.

I am planning on attending the USGP and the Canadian GP this year, though -- haven't been to either in years. And Indy is unique, and intense.

I guess thanks for the heads up, Nola, even though you actually killed the idea for me! Best to find out something isn't going to work, or isn't what you want, as early-on as possible....

Most memorable!

Two years ago at the USGPP and it started to hail/rain on the short straight! About a half dozen cars couldn't keep it on the track C8 including heir Schumacher.

The race was is the Fall and I think thats why they switched to Summer.

Amazing!

Actually that was in 03... I don't recall Schumacher taking an off-track excursion, but he did slow down enough for Montoya to overtake him like he was parked on the banked turn (there's a vid out there somewhere). Then the rain let off and Schumacher proceeded to spank everyone (I'm not a Schumi fan, but that was a fine drive). BTW, Montoya got black flagged about 3/4 into the race for an incident with Rubens in the opening laps, if I remember well.

good to know.. i definitly want to go and watch, i'm sure I would enjoy myself a lot... but when it comes to watching the races on tv or the track in general I am not a fan of indy in comparison to some of the other tracks on the schedule

...but the black and silver was so much slicker....

ok, I know the orange livery is a traditional McLaren color, but the black and silver were the best looking cars on the track!

I really hope the new engine holds up like last years did during the second half of the season.

Too bad Ford didn't put the development money into the team that Red Bull has done with the old Jaguar team btw. It was partially my respect for the McLarens that led me to buy my first Mercedes this year ('92 500 SL) and it is WAY more car then any Jag I have ever owned. Mercedes role in F1 has converted me. I guess the old "win on Sunday sell on Monday" slogan still holds true! Although I still don't aspire to own a Renault......

New livery is amazing!

Hadn't seen the new pictures when I posted my previous message. Was just on the Mclaren web site and saw the new color scheme. How cool is that!?

I saw video of it on the track yesterday. That red is bright! Best looking car on the grid.
