McLaren-Mercedes MP4-21
well the new 2006 car got introduced on monday.. i'm surprised no one posted it yet... well here are some pics.
I personally was kind of surprised to see development started in the summer of 2004

The official launch has not taken place yet, but that is the new model. I doubt it will be orange for the season, although I would love to see it. I'm hearing they are having huge reliability problems with the new V-8

The fact that Kimi is worried about the new engine sure does make me nervous.....
I just hope they got it right, that's all. I would hate to see another year get dulled my engine problems, especially if the chassis is as good as it was last year.
Either way, bring on Bahrain!

i read f1-live everyday.. i've practically read every single article that has to do with the mclaren and kimi, along with the majority of the rest of them.. i just dont remember ever reading that.. seems kind of strange for kimi to say something like that, i don't think he's even allowed to say something like that

I too am addicted to the f1 websites. Whenever I speak F1 to my friends they look at me like I'm from another planet. The season is almost here!
By the way, the nose of the MP4-21 looks like a platypus.

Not the best picture in the world to tell from...but it really threw me off and made me wonder. Different nose and different wing will make a heckuva difference won't they?

F1 Live is a good site, but so is ITV. Check it out:
http://www.itv-f1.com/Home.aspx
There was a short article where Kimi mentioned that there "was a lot of work to do on the engine side" or something to that effect. Whatever it was it was enough to make me feel uncomfortable.
You guys weren't saying that you think the car is going to be orange all year, did you? There is no way that's going to happen!

no the orange is just an interim car for testing. I believe the last time they used the orange during testing was for the MP4-12 in 97 when West took over as the main sponsor for McLaren instead of Marlboro.. and they went from red/white to black/silver.
and in response to ClayJ.. if McLaren made these changes from the 2005 car.. then it obviously has some kind of benefit or advantage over the 2005 car so yeah i think it will make a difference.. its just a matter of how much that i have no idea

The sidepods are much smaller than '05. Of course, it takes less airlfow to cool an 8 cylinder than last years 10 cylinder. The sidepod trend seems to be the norm for all teams in their 2006 launches.
Read an article today that stated the V-8 is underpowered so Mercedes is having to re-tool the pistons. The lack of pace is starting to worry me. Of course, Mario can always blame Montoya for losing the championship if the engine is unreliable right?

I hope thats the case.. i read that the problem with the V8's is that they cause a lot of vibrations in the 18,000rpm range which is where the drivers try to keep the revs.. up high... where as with the V10, the vibrations ranged in the 13000-14000 range, which wasnt too big of a problem because they kept the revs much higher in the 19000 area... I hope your right about the one race engine rule cuz that will certainly save mercedes, since I admit I am worried about their reliability
