Mercedes first F3 win

Mercedes began competing this year in the German F3 championship with an engine based on their new M271 motor. They won their first race at Nürburgring - the sixth event of the year (took their first pole at the Nürburgring in May - but those races ended being called on account of snow!).

The new engine was built by HWA (the "A" from AMG) using Mercedes new 1.8L 4-cylinder engine, however without the kompressor or direct injection (not legal in this series).

Results (22 laps = 79.750 km):
1 Markus Winkelhock Dallara-Mercedes 31:21.787min
2 Timo Glock Dallara-Opel +4.440sec
3 Kousuke Matsuura Dallara-Opel +5.510sec
4 Joao Paulo de Oliveira Dallara-Honda +8.061
5 Jeffrey van Hooydonk Dallara-Honda +9,732
6 Cesar Campanico Dallara-Opel +11.536sec

Cheers, BT

These are the technical regulations for the German F3 championship(F3 = Formula 3, a notch below F3000; which is essentially a super F3 category which serves as a substitute for the old Formula 2; I think F3000 would be more popular if they simply called it F2).
